Outlier is operated by Scale AI and connects subject-matter experts with AI labs that need human feedback on model outputs. There are no minimum hours; your earnings depend on the hours you contribute each week and the project you are placed on.

Outlier does not publish a public rate card. Rates are shown per project after you qualify. Compare it with platforms that publish a number on the AI training jobs comparison.

What you need to apply

From Outlier's own FAQ:

A valid ID and a mobile phone from your country of residence.
A current résumé.
Expertise the platform can verify — coding, STEM, writing, languages or a professional field.

Applications are reviewed against open projects. Passing onboarding for one project does not guarantee continuous work.

How pay works

Outlier describes earnings as based on the hours you contribute, with full control of your schedule. In practice, each project has its own hourly rate and quality standards, and projects can end or pause. The referral program lives in the dashboard

Outlier's FAQ says you can refer friends and colleagues "once you've created an Outlier account", from the dashboard. There is no public affiliate link for people who are not contributors.
