Migrate from Zapier to Make without breaking your workflows

Before touching production
- Export a list of every active Zap, owner, trigger, action and monthly task count.
- Mark revenue-critical flows such as payments, lead routing and customer notifications.
- Record one successful input and output for each workflow. Remove secrets before saving samples.
- Check whether every Zapier app and action has an equivalent Make module or usable API endpoint.
- Set a rollback window and keep the original Zaps switched on until validation is complete.
Rebuild in the right order
Start with a low-risk, high-volume workflow. Recreate its trigger, filters and actions in Make, then add explicit error handling. Zapier paths and formatters do not always map one-to-one to Make routers, filters and iterators.
Run both versions in parallel with test records. Compare the final payloads, timestamps and duplicate behavior. Only then move one production source to Make. Watch at least one complete business cycle before migrating the next workflow.
Cost check
Make counts operations, so one incoming record can consume several credits as it moves through modules. Estimate the full module count per run and multiply it by actual monthly volume. Use the Make plan finder to map that estimate to a published tier.
Rollback checklist
- Preserve the original Zap and its connection settings.
- Avoid changing both the source schema and automation platform on the same day.
- Add an idempotency key or processed-record flag where duplicate actions would hurt.
- Keep a manual route for revenue-critical records during the first week.
